The Odd Couple” is a comedy about a pair of divorced roommates who are complete opposites in their habits and lifestyles. Oscar Madison is a New York sportswriter who revels in his slobbishness. Oscar resides in an eight-room Riverside Drive apartment, where the entire play is set, and his life is in upheaval because his friend Felix Unger has moved in with him. Felix is a neat-freak photographer who is obsessed with cooking gourmet meals, purifying the air, and removing every speck of dust from Oscar’s domain. Even though in personality Oscar and Felix are like oil and water, and even though they drive each other crazy, they do care about each other. Their friendship persists despite their differences.

February 23-25, 2024

Before Taylor Swift… before The Beatles…before Elvis. We had Gilbert & Sullivan. Their comic operettas took the English-speaking world by storm. They heavily influenced the development of modern musical theater. Their works prompted references in literally hundreds of plays, movies, and television shows — including The Producers, Hamilton, The Simpsons and Raiders of the Lost Ark.

And now, Amelia Musical Playhouse will bring highlights of these classic works to Fernandina Beach in a staged concert featuring songs from The Mikado, H.M.S. Pinafore, Pirates of Penzance, and more.

The topsy-turvy program will be hosted by Frank O’Donnell, Amelia Underwood and Jeff Goldberg and feature more than a dozen talented actor-singers.

Be prepared for some tongue-twisting patter songs, beautiful harmonies, and maybe a surprise or two.

Directed by Frank O’Donnell with music direction by Lynn Arizzi.

Sponsored by Jan Cote-Merow in Memory of Tom Cote-Merow.
